The Zarna Garg Family Podcast | Ep. 30: Pets As Family
Ever wondered how your childhood shapes your pet ownership views? Zarna's Indian upbringing clashed with her husband Shalabh's fond memories of a childhood dog, leading their kids to get involved in the debate. The Garg family tackles societal norms that shove pet responsibilities onto moms, dream up futuristic robot pets, and dive into the ethics of adopting vs. breeding. And of course, join us for the conversation as we navigate the murky waters of pets as property vs. family.

I wholeheartedly concur with Zarna Aunty and Zoya. This topic was incredibly vital to discuss, as there is a pervasive assumption that everyone should conform to the idea of having pets. It’s almost obnoxious.
Although I love love all the podcasts that have been on this channel. 16 mins into the video and I feel a bit disappointed and sad. I feel pets are not compared to masters and slaves. I am a mother to an Infant but before that I was a dog mom. My pet is everything to me and as important as my kid. It has never been a master and slave relationship. The way she has helped me through my toughest times and been with me. I cannot put a price to that while also mentioning that when my kid was born I leaned so much more that just can’t be compared to the former. Also on the point of men helping out, my husband had been great dad to our pup and he is a great dad to our kid as well. He helps so much in the house, kitchen and taking care of the kids. I think there are some serious biased opinions in the video and once you start living with a pet, only then you would know how your life changes for good.
This is just so beautiful
Mom's aren't always the care takers of dogs, there are Dog Dad's who are devoted to their dogs. Thank you Brij for bringing that up. Zarna's clear angst towards pets is very indicative of a lot of Indian peoples opinion and it always comes from ignorance, a lack of first hand experience and/or a traumatic childhood experience with a stray dog in India.
First time I disagree with Zarna - however, it’s an opinion she shares as I have done here
This was funny as hell
I’m Latina and can totally relate to Zarna. As for the comments criticizing Zarna being stern till this day and on this video…are you forgetting that she’s a comedian, that part of it is for laughs. In viewing this video and her children, I will give kudos to her because all three are great kids.
Zoya gets the A+ today as she raised great points about the ethics of animal ownership and the red flags of being with a pet owner if you're not into owning pets. Also, I 100% agree with Shalabh's surprise and shock that the kids haven't seen Kill Bill. Everyone should watch both movies for the pure entertainment value.
As a single mom of an autistic child our dog is our protection. We absolutely love her and she also provides company and comfort for my son. I do keep her away from company if need be. I understand that many people don't particularly want an animal around them . I respect others views as they are entitled to them.
Aur india Pakistan match dekhne kr baad virat kohli ko out kar diya
I love the kid 😢innocent answers ❤❤ and mommy drama is super funny …and natural
My mom was exactly like Zarna. Until we got a dog and she is completely on the otherside.
😂😂😂oh my.. those who don't know math always end up in prison
When you meet adults who haven't seen Kill Bill, you know you are officially an Uncle or Auntie - me included.
People joke about him but I don't think anybody in this industry can take a joke like Karan Johar.
We are more of caretakers/ guardian of pets and though animals are limited in their ability to express themselves they nevertheless communicate their preferences and emotions. My cat will through her body language and behaviors show what food she is into, if she wants to go outside for walks or sunbathe. Its definitely not one sided and it is human's weakness and insecurity that they seek to impose this slave master dynamic with their pet.
Way too much opinion and zero experience. It’s not a master servant relationship- what a terrible thing to say - it’s the same dependency your kids have on you - for food shelter and potty.
I understand the viewpoint you are expressing, but it is important to consider that everyone's opinion is based on their unique experiences. It would be more constructive to engage in a respectful dialogue rather than make dismissive comments using "zero experience or terrible comment."
Difference between kids n animals is that kids won't give you rabies.
Personally I feel that every species has a different place in nature and they should maintain their distance but human have extrapolated into everyone’s territory. People have clear instructions for bringing babies in a certain function but get offended when it comes to their pets! Also, putting down an animal when people decide it’s time is really heartbreaking for me! We usually don’t give up on dying/sick people.
Its actually an exemplary movie in bollywood about how to depict negative themes. No one will come out of the theater thinking lets do drugs its glamorous. Otherwise bollywood, or indian cinema in geberal is notorious for glamorising wrong things like stalking, abusing partners, even rapes
I hope the dingo comment was a joke. Dingos are a distinct species in Australia. Street dogs in India are called Pariah or Desi Kutta. They're just a mix of all Indian breeds. They are not nearly as dangerous as you described and they're not a "problem" if they're spayed/neutered and vaccinated and have regular access to food and water. A lot of people go out of their way to feed and care for these street dogs.
Animals they should live outside not in the house, when i see people in stores with animals hair and their house is full with hair.👎
This one was a little too negative on the pets topic in the podcast and comments
I don‘t like living with animals. I am like Zama.
Why don't we judge humans who have biological kids vs adopt kids?
Errrrr... I don't understand your comment or why you would even suggest this?
Indoor pets never for me.
Zarna .. mam... U read my mind ... I absolutely agree with u.
Most of the Indians will be scared of animals because of stray dogs and cats. Most of the stray dogs are so violent in India. Pet lovers can ignore my comment if it makes them sad, but it’s the reality. Until I came to Europe, I was so scared of dogs.
1+1=10 😤
They love the people around themselves , so they won't share and spend time with 'em?🤣🤣🤣 Jharna aunty rocks☝🏻
Udta Punjab dilhadi kya
😂😂😂
Love you Zarna and love the way you are bringing up your children with good values.
Change the title to "Indian American Family hates pets - Here is why!" TLDR version, 1. They Die 2. Owners are assholes 3. Pets are animals and not humans
Completely agree with aunty Zarna
Oh, Zarna. I am happy you posted this, because it's helpful for me to understand a non-pet person's perspective. I will make sure to not even talk about pets to non-pet people in future! However, since you brought it up, I believe you are incorrect that pet owners are masters and that pets are slaves. That has not been my experience at all. Each animal will communicate to their owner (guardian) a very wide array of emotions, preferences, needs, and yes, opinions from the moment one takes the trouble to observe. Yes, pets rely on their guardians completely, and that lack of autonomy makes me sad for pets, but a good owner/guardian will do their very best to meet their pet's physical, emotional, and social needs. It is a relationship based on mutual love and respect. The owner/guardian has the serious responsibility to sympathetically care for, protect, and provide for the pet. And 99.99% of the time, the pet responds with a very generous love. They learn our languages, routines, and rules. They show us tenderness, intelligence, and humor. Many will protect us with their lives. They are not slaves. I am not a master. By the way, most cats are going to make a bee-line for you, because they know you don't like them. Many cats just like to bust your chops, and some may think they can change your mind. Be prepared for a charm offensive. 😉
honestly thats not what I mean - some people may love your pets, but if they don't or express a hesitation, maybe time to reconsider?
@@ZarnaGarg I should have been more clear. Because you shared your opinion, I will in future not expose non-pet people to my pets. I will put the pets securely away, and I will not discuss them with a non-pet person. I aleady had the habit of putting pets away when non-pet people come over, but because of your input I now realize discussing pets is not welcome. Have I understood you correctly?
We had a dog that hated my brother in laws sister. She wanted a chunk out of her all the time. She was a sweet person to this day but my dog didn’t think so. I wish she wanted a chunk out of my brother in law. He is an AH.
1+1 is 2 until yku learn what Boolean algebra is where every revolves around 1s and 0s. So if you want to make yourself feel smart, ask a 5 year old what the quadrant equation js and make yourself feel smart and demotivate them to make them feel Iike they dont know anything.
I love cats and dogs are fun too but I can’t deal having furs in my foods/drinks.
You are totally wrong about animals, and you don’t know the First thing about animal behaviour! I am an Indian living in Bombay, and this is sickening to me Your absolute Hatred of innocent pets… and your complete ignorance on the matter. Many more Indians are keeping and loving home pets now thank God. There’s something wrong with you Zara, the problem is your preconceived hatred, your sad attitude and pre-judgement… as much as I think you’re funny and entertaining and agree with you on other issues, your attitude to innocent loving pets totally sucks Aunty Zarna!
Zarna is right.I am with you
I don’t like licking or drooling or fur on clothes and dogs/cats on beds or licking plates just gross. No way would you like a persons spit on you?
Zarna I agree with your pet pov. It’s a western thing and I find it obnoxious that we all have to be ok with it.
Animals should live outside.
Love to watch this show. Everybody is so articulate and intelligent. I learn a lot
I absolutely agree with the way you deal with your pets
I am with Zarna! I actually don’t like to visit people who own pets because I think they start treating their pets like their children, and it’s a hygiene issue for me.
I'm absolutely with aunty Zarna on it❤
